CFDA honors Iman as "Fashion Icon"

Last night at the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards gala, model Iman received the Fashion Icon award which honors her as having "a signature style that has had a profound influence on fashion."
Now, I thought Iman was a random choice because when you think of fashion icons, she's not the first name to come to mind. But after looking at some of her previous looks, why not Iman? She's beautiful, classy, modern, and sophisticated. Not to mention, she represents the modern day woman; a business woman, wife, and mother. The only difference is Iman does it with style and grace, which not to many women can do. O and let's not forgot that she has been part of the many phases of fashion, was one hell of a model, and a designer fave.
So kudos to Iman. She deserves it!
She looks gorgeous!

This past weekend was the Kentucky Derby in Louisville which meant lots of hats and Kentucky Derby fashion.
Ashlee Simpson and hubby Pete Wentz came dressed in vintage Kentucky Derby outfits.
I think they look cute. Fashion faux pas or fashion statement?

Louis Vuitton Gives Back During Earth Day

Aprill 22nd is Earth Day and Louis Vuitton feels the need to give back. So, for all purchases made on LV's US website on Earth Day, LV will donate 10% of its sales to the Global Green USA, which will help the foundation's Green Schools initiative in different cities.
It's always nice to see fashion brands and designers give back, especially to our environment. Every little bit helps. So if you wanna do a little bit of shopping on Earth Day, stop by the LV website and if you're feeling guilty after your purchase, at least you'll know that a portion of it is helping our environment.

Leona Lewis and the Chic Circus?

Fashion Faux Pas or Fashion Statement
What exactly is going on here? Leona looks like she's part of the chic circus. For one, what is up with the lace eye fashion? I'm all for edge but this is not cutting it for me. Secondly, does she really have on a clown collar(I don't know what they're actually called but you get my drift)? I would expect Gaga to wear that not Leona. Lastly, the pants. Where to begin? First, they're ill-fitting. Next, what's going on with the crotch area? Is that suppose to be the design or just wrinkles? Either way, its unflattering. Overall, the pants look cheap and in the words of Tim Gunn like "student work."
However, there are some things I do like. For one, black is always fabulous and chic. You can never go wrong with it. So kudos to the color. Secondly, I like the sequin bustier, shoes, and the red lipstick. If she would've paired the aforementioned with a blazer, better fitting pants, and maybe a funky looking clutch to give it some bite, she would've looked fierce.
Leona, you need to have a serious talk with your stylist because this is a fashion faux pas.
What do you guys think? Fashion faux pas or fashion statement?

Fashion Exhibition..Nic*Fish and Jypsea

Hey Fashionistas,
For those who celebrated Easter Sunday, I hope it was enjoyable!
Two weekends ago, I had the chance to attend a fashion exhibition of Nic*Fish and Jypsea at the Solo House Project in Newark, NJ and had a great time! Just to give you a little background info.....
Nic*Fish is a contemporary womenswear label designed by stylist/designer, Nicole Fisher. Created in 2000, Nic*Fish collections are composed of versatile, convertible, and trendsetting pieces, in jersey fabric.
Jypsea is a funky, eco-friendly, handcrafted leather-goods line created by designer Terina McKinney. McKinney's line is inspired by individuality and the beauty of nature but the real beauty of Jypsea is that the accessories are made with exotic skins, leathers, and other quality recycled materials, making them one-of-a-kind pieces or limited editions, so everybody isn't walking around mirroring each other. Recently, Jypsea was shown during NY Fashion Week.
Both labels are uber chic and made for confident and unique fashionistas everywhere.
The venue, Solo House Project, was phenomenal! The colorful tribal art accentuated both labels due to its authenticity.
Nic*Fish Fashions
The fingerless gloves are by Jypsea. Aren't they hot?
This is the back of the black jacket she had on. This is so fierce. She was working it!!
Jypsea
These pictures are of inside the Jypsea Boutique.
Jypsea lavender handbag
Other Jypsea clutches and turquoise fingerless gloves
Needless to say, I am a fan of both! I even purchased this little number from Nic*Fish.
I bet you're wondering...It's a gold jumper. And this is how you get the top result.
You put it on as a halter. It ties at the neck and back.
Now, the bottom half that was lying on the floor in the first picture goes in between the legs and around the back, like so.
Lastly, wrap the ends of the garment around you to tie. You can leave it tied in the back or bring it to the front like I did, I like it better this way lol and voila!
To add a little edge and pop, I added black feather earrings, red lipstick, and these 5 and 1/4 platforms.
Both designers were extremely friendly and can't wait to see more from them. For more information. Check out www.nicfish.com and www.jypsea.com.

If you're residing in the NY metro area, then you're probably enjoying the beautiful weather we've been having for the past two days. I know I am.
I really needed to get my hair done. Before yesterday, I was wearing a hat for the past couple of days and since the weather is treating us northerners so well, I decided no more hats. So today I went to Simply Chic Hair Studio to get beautified.....

Check out my new shoes from Aldo. Compliments of my thoughtful bf.....
So here's the story behind these...
When I first saw them in Aldo, I was with my girlfriend and encouraged her to try them on because she was looking for some booties. She tried them on, liked them and went on and on about how comfy they were, so I tried them on and fell in love but they were pricey(well at least for me, $120). However, my girlfriend didn't have a problem with them being $120 but she didn't buy them either. So we left them there, unclaimed and ready for the next woman or women to purchase them. Upset but not down, I was determined to purchase these against my shoe policy(never buying a pair of shoes over 100. There's always a way to get them cheaper). They were that fly.
So a few weeks went by(like three) and I was monitoring them; making sure my size was still available or if they went on sale(even though I knew they were a new release but wishful thinking). One day I was with my boo, showed them to him(hoping he would buy them for me lol), and asked him what he thought. He just gave me the side eye and dragged me out the store. Again, I left Aldo hurt. This time with the sad puppy dog face. Meanwhile, my boyfriend is calling me pitiful and laughing at me(the nerve of him).
A couple more weeks went by and I started to forget about them because I had other things to worry about until one Friday. I was having a really bad day and nothing was going my way. The only thing I had to look forward to was a road trip to Delaware with my sorority sisters. While speaking to my darling boyfriend, who wanted to cheer me up and insisted we go get some lunch and talk, he told me he had a surprise for me. Now 98% of the time my boyfriend can't surprise me because I'm always asking questions or thinking, so naturally I figure it out but this time I had absolutely no clue. So we're having our lunch date, everything is fine, he's cheering me up like the good boyfriend he is and says to me "babe I know you're having a rough day but I think this will really make your day." He starts digging in his pants pocket. So I'm thinking, is he about to give me money for Delaware? Hell, I'll take it lol. Instead he pulls out a receipt from Aldo and says "I know you really wanted these so I decided to buy them for you." My eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store. My boo ordered my shoes!!! Happy days were here again and all was right with the world. It really did make my day a whole lot better because it was a sweet and random gesture from the love of my life. Not to mention I saved $120.
I haven't worn them out yet...still putting together an outfit. Any ideas?

The Blackout Awards

Two Sundays ago, I attended the 1st Annual Blackout Awards, honoring celebrity fashion stylists, make-up artists, and hair stylists. It was created by hair stylist extraordinaire, Yancey Edwards, who decided there needed to be an outlet to celebrate the celebrities behind the celebrities; the people who make our darling celebs look fabulous and out right fierce...
There was a total of 20 hot shot honorees. Some included: Hairstylist Hadiya Barbel( Iman,Ciara, Ashanti, Eva Pigford), Fashion Stylist Atiba Newsome(P. Diddy, Mary. J Blidge), Makeup and Creative Arts Emmy Award winner, Karen Dupiche (Michelle Obama, Steve Harvey, Victoria Beckham), just to name a few. However, it was Misa Hylton and Nole Marin who were the highlight of the Blackout Awards. Misa Hylton who is a well known Fashion Stylist in the hip hop community(and P. Diddy's high school sweet heart and mother to their son Justin) received the 1st ever Naomi Sims Award of Excellence while Nole Marin received the Vanguard Award.
If you're an America's Next Top Model watcher(or at least of the early seasons) then Nole Marin's name should sound very familiar because he was a consistent and favorite judge on the hit show. Now, I'll be honest, although I was excited to meet him, I initially thought he was going to be one of those stuck up fashionistas but I was so surprised how warm and welcoming he was. Out of all the honorees I was able to meet, Nole was the most humble and grounded. He was so nice!!!! He took pictures with everyone who asked and conversed as well. If you asked for advice(which I did), he gave you some. He was such a breathe of fresh air. It just made me love him even more......
Check out some pictures
Hadiya Barbel(I tried to get her shoes. She has on Christian Siriano)

Although I still feel some sort of way about men wearing skirts, Stylist Yusef Williams swagged it out.
Please excuse my oily face....ugh
