Cyber Monday

Hey Fashionistas,

Hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend because I did! Now back to business. If you missed all the Black Friday deals, wished there were more, or kicking off holiday shopping well you're in luck because today is CYBER MONDAY!!!!!!! If you don't know what Cyber Monday is, it is the equivalent of Black Friday, kinda like the virtual Black Friday, just on Monday. So instead of getting up in the wee hours of the morning to catch the early bird specials, you can shop while at work with a click of a mouse...sweet.

Since the inception of " Cyber Mondays" this day has grown rapidly. It is reported that more than 96 million Americans will participate(hope the internet won't crash). Also, the number of retailers have increased as well. Last year two thousand retailers had special deals on this Monday. This year approximately 7000 more  retailers have jumped on the Cyber Monday bandwagon. So if you do plan on shopping today here are some places you should visit.

1). Ann Taylor is offering 40% off everything plus free shipping for purchases $100+.
2). DSW (my shoe haven) is offering 25% off ENTIRE PURCHASE!!!!
3) Arden B is offering 30% entire store off plus free shipping on all purchases $15+
4) Banana Republic 20% and free shipping
5) Lucky Brand 30% off everything and free shipping $75+
6) Steve Madden 25% off plus free shipping
7) Guess 25% off full priced merchandise and an additional 60% off sale items
8) Bakers shoes 25% off when you spend $100+ and 15 % if you spend under.
And the biggest deal of them all right now is..........
9).New York & Co offering 50% off EVERYTHING plus FREE SHIPPING ON ANY PURCHASE!!!!  And if you know like I know, NY&Co. has some great stuff. I had the chance to go to one of their stores over the weekend and people were grabbing things up left from right. So if you see something you want ya better buy it because the next shopper probably going to grab it if you don't.

Other stores that you should check out is Saks Fifth Ave. Forever 21, 7 for Mankind, Free People, and BeBe because they're all offering free shipping (which is a deal in it's self). Check out Target as well. I'm pretty sure they have some serious deals going on.

Check all stores for details..
Happy Shopping!!!

Michelle Obama in Naeem Khan for State Dinner

We all know that we have a one fashionable first lady! Time after time she stuns the world with her chic and classy attire (except the whole shorts controversy) and Tuesday night was no exception. For the Obama administration first state dinner Mrs. Obama wore an elegant and strapless gown by little known Indian designer Naeem Khan.

To balance out the elegant yet glamorous number she kept her  make-up natural looking, her hair in a sophisticated updo, chandelier earrings, and gold diamond bangles on her left arm. She looked absolutely flawless!

The AMAs

By now I'm pretty sure you're aware that the AMAs were last Sunday, Nov. 22. So I'ma just post red carpet pics. Some outfits were very chic while others were...interesting. And what an embarrassing fall made by JLo poor thang! Pop the top to see some pics.

Victoria Secrets 2009 Fashion Show

Ok, so I'm a little late posting this(I've been very busy) but better late than never. Last week, Thursday, Vicki Secrets taped their 2009 Fashion Show, which returned to  NYC,at the Lexington Ave Armory, for the first time since 2005.

The sexiest show on earth was hosted by Heidi Klum, who also graced the runway just six weeks after giving birth to her fourth child.

The show will air Dec. 3 at 10pm on CBS. Be prepared to see five new "Angels" (Chanel Iman, Emanuela de Paula, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Lindsay Ellingson, and Candice Swanepoel) hit the runway and a performance from Black Eyed Peas. Pop the top to see some pics.

Chanel Iman..the new Minni Mouse for Vogue Germany

Chanel Iman is featured, as Minni Mouse, in Mark Seliger's new shoot "Minni in Wunderland" for Vogue Germany December 2009. Minni never looked so beautiful and haute! Pop the top.

Interesting....

Men wearing Kilts, Skinny Jeans, & Meggings...Oh My!

So I was watching the Tyra Banks show yesterday and at some point she had a mini fashion show showcasing haute trends for women and men for the fall/winter season. As former ANTM contestants modeled pieces like cute boyfriend sweaters and androgynous suits the men modeled kilts, skinny jeans, and meggings. Apparently, men wearing kilts, skinny jeans, and meggings are in. I mean I know men wearing skinny jeans are in because I've seen petite men wearing them all over the place but kilts and meggings?

Now kilts are a scottish tradition  and that's fine but what about passing it as a fashion trend in the US? Hmm and although Marc Jacobs is one of the designers who debuted kilts on the runway, it still looked very awkward seeing this sexy "manly" man on the Tyra Show wearing a "haute" kilt. I know that fashion is all about art, expression, & reinventing the wheel but men wearing kilts? IDK. It takes an extremely bold and confident gent to feel comfortable wearing one of these. This trend will take some time getting use to..

On to meggings which are leggings for men. This trend has taken Tokyo, Paris, London, and now NY by storm. Grown men are wearing meggings not just to keep warm but as fashion statements. Some wear them under shorts while others are wearing them as an alternate to jeans, trousers what have you.  I would need to desensitize myself to this trend as well but it would be easier to accept meggings than kilts.

This year has been the year of androgynous pieces. It is more common and cute to see a woman in boyfriend jeans, sweaters, and pant-suits but what about the other way around? Is it as easily acceptable to see our male counterparts in skinny jeans, kilts, and meggings or should the androgynous look only cater to women?

Rihanna to launch new fragrance....

Is it just me or doesn't seem like every celebrity wants to develop a perfume!? Miss Rih Rih and the Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West are the new celebrities hopping on the perfume bandwagon. The two megastars teamed up wth Jay-Z' and his licensing company, Iconic Fragrances, to release signature scents the summer of 2010. Rih Rih has "been right there with a chemist mixing formulas"  because she wants hers "to be the fragrance no man can resist-and it is."

Either way I wouldn't buy it. I'm not that big on celebrity fragrances. Although, I do like Britney Spears Curious.

Rent-the-Runway..literally

Love the high-fashion seen on runways? Wish you could afford and wear them? Well thanks to a newly formed website called Rent-the-Runway accessing RTW couture is as easy popping pop corn (well not that easy but you get my drift).

Rent-the-Runway, a mail-order service, will allow women to rent fashions from notable designers (i.e. Diane Von Furstenberg & Herve Leger) at prices starting from $50-$200. To get the full story check nytimes.com

Zoe Kravitz for Vera Wang's Princess

Zoe Kravitz, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet daughter, is now the new face of Vera Wang's perfume, Rock Princess. The multi-talented star will begin fronting the the "Born to Rule" campaign replacing Camilla Belle.

Although Zoe is crowned in an embellishd tiara, the Rock Princess, picked by Vera Wang herself, is suppose to give a rock'n'roll edge to the campaign, shot by Bruce Weber.

This is the perfect marriage since Zoe already has a natural rock'n'roll vibe & style. You go girl!

My New Fuchsia Sensation

This past Saturday I went to DSW to find grey shoes but instead of buying grey shoes I ended up buying these hot and trendy fuschia pumps from Steven by Steve Madden. They come in an array of colors such as black and black, red and black, burnt orange and black and camel and black.

I definitely wore them out Saturday but forgot to take a pic of my whole outfit which consisted of leather like matte leggings, a black off the shoulder shirt, and the necklace containing gold, fuchsia, black, dark royal blue, clear teal, and clear turquoise chains.

I felt oh so chic and got so many compliments on them. I can't wait to wear them again. Owww!

Glamour Mag's 2009 Women of the Year Awards

On Monday night Glamour hosted their annual Women of the Year Awards at NYC's Carnegie Hall. Some of the honorees were Rihanna, fashion designer Stella McCartney, tennis titan Serena Williams, comedienne Amy Poehler and the ever phenomenal poet Dr. Maya Angelou, who received the lifetime achievement award and gave a heartfelt and efficacious speech about the power of womanhood. Pop the top to see pics and highlight footage.

Fashionista but Budgetista

So like any female I love to shop but I also love to find deals on my favorite brands. Hell it's a recession so every buck counts and although it's nice to splurge on a guilty pleasure every now and then, it's still nice to shop at reasonable prices in general. Well, here are a few options that will allow for guilt free shopping experience.

Rihanna's Full 20/20 Interview

So if you were home this past Friday night then I'm pretty sure you caught Rihanna's full interview with Diane Sawyer on 20/20 but if you so happened to miss it then take a gander....

Fashion Quick Tips for Fashion Emergencies

Hey Fashionistas,

So while perusing through MSN for my daily news intake I stumbled across a fabou fashion video about last minute quick fixes for every fashionista. Of course I watched it because as women we often need last min tips to bring and keep our look all together. So here's some of the things that I thought stood out (and will be buying).

Rihanna Part Deux: "The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other equally"

Rihanna was on Good Morning America today for part 2 of her interview. In it she gives a snippet on how the fun night of Feb 8th escalated to the dramatic beat down, how CBreezy had "no soul," while abusing her, and admits to still caring and loving him. Catch 20/20 tonight where she airs out the whole kit and caboodle as well as discuss her childhood. Damn, damn, damn, just when Chris starts trying to piece his life back together, Rihanna comes and drops a bomb on him. O well, at least she telling her side of the story.

Interview Part 2

Part 1

The Wait Is Ova: Rihanna to break her silence on Chris Brown beatdown

Since the Chris Brown assault, February 8, 2009, Rihanna has taken a vow of silence, leaving the world to only digest Chris Brown's side of the story and to formulate their own opinion of what may have happened that fateful night. Well wait no more because Rihanna will break her vow in a two-part interview on ABC's Good Morning America Thursday and 20/20 on Friday. The Barbadian pop star will finally disclose her take of the heated night and what has been going on since.

In a recent Glamour Magazine exclusive, Rihanna discusses how the assault has made her "stronger, wiser, and more aware" and how she "wants to give as much insight" to young women experiencing domestic violence. To read the interview click here.

Since the assault, Chris Brown has done a series of interviews trying to rectify the situation while being sentenced to five years probation, 180 days of community service, a year of domestic violence classes, and barred from any contact with the Disturbia hit-maker.

Rihanna has two new songs out, "Russian Roulette" and "Wait Your Turn" which will be on her fourth album, Rated R, slated to drop Nov. 23rd.

Although I'm very curious to hear what miss Rih Rih has to say since she hasn't said a darn word, how convenient is it that she's ready to talk when her album is about to drop. I'm all about empowering women and what not but she should have said something a while ago because now this just looks like a PR stunt which is disappointing because she could have taken an underrated subject and turned it into a sincere and motivational movement.

O well it is what it is  but check out her new video for "Wait Your Turn"

What do yall think?

Fashionistas come in all sizes. Just ask Ashley Falcon, a "Big Girl in a Skinny World"

For the November issue of Marie Claire, the Magazine introduced a new column titled a "Big Girl in a Skinny World," which details the fashion ongoings of Marie Claire's fashion columnist, Ashley Falcon.

Every month the aspiring fashion stylist will discuss her struggles as a plus-size fashionista, while dishing out "how to tips" on dressing faboulously for all sizes.

Although I'm not a plus-size fashionista, it was refreshing to read her article because I thought it was a great way to challenge societal norms/stereotypes. All to much we see the media spuing out what is deemed the norm and/or beautiful, especially in the fashion industry. So the fact that Ashley is:
  • plus-sized and comfortable in her own skin
  • passionate for fashion
  • possesses a unique sophistication and style
shows the world that fashionistas come in a beautiful pallete of shades and sizes. Kudos to Ashley...

To see exactly what Ashley has to say, go cop the latest issue of Marie Claire(Dec.) or click here to read her November article.

Jimmy Choo for H&M event

As everyone is anxiously awaiting the debut of H&M and Jimmy Choo's collabo, the celebs gathered for the Jimmy Choo for H &M event in LA yesterday. Pop it here and here to see what Hayden Panettiere, Paris Hilton, M.I.A and more wore to the cheap chic event.

Jimmy Choo for H&M..The Countdown Begins!!

In less than two weeks, H&M, one of my favorite stores, will be launching their highly anticipated Jimmy Choo collection! O the excitement!!! The line will include both men and women collections featuring shoes, accessories, pants, blazers etc for the males and matching accessories for the women collection. The line looks amazing and will be set at reasonable prices for H&M ( i.e. a pair of H&M Jimmy Choo shoes can start at as low as $99 as compared to a regular Jimmy Choo boutique shoe for $300+).  You can't beat a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes for $99 bucks!!! This also means there will be straight chaos and extended lines at around 200 selected stores worldwide on Nov. 14th for this limited edition collection. So, get there extremely early, meaning before store hours if you even plan on touching a Jimmy Choo piece lol.

For more information on what to expect on Nov.14 check out H&M's website(www.hm.com). They have updated their site in preparation for the debut to include pics of the collections, a how to shop and size guide, and fashion promo trailers.Take a look at some pictures.

That's so Ferosh! Christian Siriano on the Oprah Show

Ok, so I'm a huge Project Runway fan(even though I believe this season 6 is rigged...more on that later) so you can only imagine my excitement when I saw season 4 winner, Christian Siriano as a guest on Oprah's October 29th, "Biggest Reality Stars" Show. Season 4 is one of my favorite seasons because of Christian. He's outgoing persona, infectious catchphrases, and of course his fierce, fierce, fierce eye for design always left an imprinted smile on my face (I was soo happy he won).

Anyhow, Christian was on Oprah talking about his Project Runway experience, the catchphrase fierce (while unveiling a new phrase ...ferosh), and his new collection. The SS2010 collection included beautifully and cleverly crafted gowns and dresses with unique digital designs as well as shoes from his Payless Collection. Supermodel and Project Runway host, Heidi Klum skyped in and announced she'll be launching a shoe and maternity line and revealed Christian's gift which was the cutest couture bib ever!

At the end of the show, Christian, in partnership with Oprah and Payless, offered a 50% discount on Payless purchases nationwide through the evening of  Oct. 30th.

Other guests of the show included American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, Randy Jackson, and America's Best Dance Crew winner We Are Hereos.

O btw, Christian has a new book out called, "Fierce Style." You know I will be getting a copy.

I loved all his designs. He's soooooooo ferosh!!!!

Welcome!

Welcome to The Fashionista's Mosaic where clothes, shoes, accessories, & lifestyle create an artful expression of identity!

The Fashionista's Mosaic is a masterpiece created from ecclectic parts of a fashionista's life that makes her/him unique. Everything from geographic location of residence, fashion, beauty, celebrity news, events, music etc. etc. influences a fashionista's personal mosaic.

Although a fashionista is defined as an individual who is solely up on all fashion trends, for my blog a fashionista:

  • has a passion for fashion
  • is someone who embodies confidence in their own right and style
  • has edge and sophistication
  • knowledegable about pop culture(since it influences fashion)
In this blog I will talk about a plethora of things in fashion, shoes, accessories, beauty, events, and whatever else comes to mind or I find interesting. I hope you enjoy!

About Me:

I am an aspiring Fashion Publicist ( Fashion PR) from New Jersey but frequents NYC. Currently I am an Admin & PR Assistant. I started this blog because of my love for fashion, shopping, and other miscellaneous subjects as well as to gain some blogging experience. This is my first personal blog so I am very excited yet nervous at the same time so feedback would be greatly appreciated especially from those who have blogging experience.
